HKUST Builds Green Living Hub for Students
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) celebrated today the opening of Jockey Club Global Graduate Tower (the Tower) – a new hostel supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), that offers a total of 504 bed spaces for the University’s research postgraduate (RPg) students. The new tower not only comes with innovative green features which earned it a prestigious green building award, but is also a testing ground for a sustainability project that aims to cut energy consumption and change hall residents’ behavior towards a more sustainable lifestyle.

Adversity is Opportunity
Life’s hardships come much early for HKUST’s third-year Data Science and Technology (DSCT) student Kevin LEUNG, who, despite coming from an underprivileged background, has not sold himself short. Recognized by numerous scholarships at HKUST, Kevin stands out from his fellows not only with his excellent grades, entrepreneurship spirit, and a caring heart for others, but, above all, a zest to turn adversity into opportunity. A dashing runnerRaised in a single-parent family, he has had a lot to shoulder since his youth. “I have helped with household chores since primary grade one, in addition to taking care of my ill father’s daily life,” says Kevin, whose father is diagnosed with kidney failure and is unable to work due to his health condition.

HKUST Launches HK’s First Degree Programs with Extended Major
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) will introduce a novel academic framework “Major + X” as a new degree option for undergraduates. Blending traditional programs with emerging hot topics such as artificial intelligence, this new degree structure not only offers students with greater flexibility, but also allows timely curriculum adjustment and better integration between existing and new knowledge to meet with the emerging need of the society.

HKUST Becomes the First University in Asia-Pacific Associated with EY Tax Lab
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today announces a collaborative partnership with EY’s Advanced Technology Tax Lab (“Tax Lab”). This unique collaboration brings together experts in data science, machine learning and business research, as well as a global leader in professional services, to solve complex tax issues through the use and application of advanced technologies. The agreement between HKUST and EY will establish a platform for joint research and technology development opportunities of mutual interest relating to the application of emerging technology to practical tax scenarios, thereby facilitating collaborations between the two organizations. This will include practical tax technology case study projects, speaking opportunities for HKUST academic staff and EY partners, and internship and graduate employment opportunities for students.

HKUST Receives HK$100 million Donation from Lo Kwee Seong Foundation to Advance Frontiers of Knowledge of Life Science
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a HK$100 million donation from Lo Kwee Seong Foundation in support of the University’s frontier research in life science.The magnanimous gift will not only allow HKUST to purchase a state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscope (cryo-EM) – a technology that has recently revolutionized the field of structural biology, it also helps the University establish an endowment fund named “Lo Kwee-Seong Research Fund” for the nurturing of research talent. In appreciation of the Foundation’s benevolent support, the University named the laboratory section of its Academic Building “Lo Kwee-Seong Building”, where the Cryo-EM machine will be housed.

The School of Business and Management of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School (HKUST Business School) announced to partner with two of the world's top business schools to launch a portfolio of dual-degree master's programs (M2M) designed to prepare aspiring young people for global roles.The M2M programs are a collaboration among five schools, under which the HKUST Business School has partnered with two of them namely the Yale School of Management (Yale SOM) and HEC Paris to offer three options of dual degrees as follows:

HKUST Receives Donation from Bright Future Charitable Foundation to Establish Academy for Bright Future Young Engineers
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) celebrated on 5 November, 2016 the opening of the Academy for Bright Future Young Engineers, where engineering students at HKUST will be given the opportunities to mentor and engage secondary school students in various engineering workshops, to spark their interests in technology and instill in them an engineering frame of mind.

HKUST Ranked First in Greater China, Top 20 in World, in Global Graduate Employability Rankings
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has climbed to No.18 in the high-profile Global Employability University Ranking 2013. HKUST is the only university in Greater China in the top 20.The survey and rankings are conducted by Emerging, a French human resources consultancy, and Trendence, a leading European research institute. The ranking was derived from the responses of 5,000 recruiters in a total of 30 countries and regions, including France, Germany, Italy, the US, the UK, Japan, Singapore, Mainland China and Hong Kong: Those responding comprised 2,700 online, and some 2,300 CEOs and chairmen from the leading 1,000 companies, who cast votes for the top 150 universities producing the most employable graduates.
