The China Manned Space Agency today announced the crew of the Shenzhou-23 mission, which includes Dr. LAI Ka-Ying, a payload specialist from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). Dr. Lai will embark on a mission aboard the Tiangong Space Station. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) extends its warmest congratulations and expresses profound pride and excitement at this historic moment. 

Led by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and established under the InnoHK research clusters of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), the Hong Kong Space Robotics and Energy Centre (HKSREC) today hosted the event themed "Leading Space Intelligence: Into the Future." The full-day event brought together representatives from government, industry, academia, research institutions, and the investment community from Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and overseas, providing a platform for in-depth exchange on space technology research, cross-regional collaboration, and commercial aerospace applications.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Times Higher Education (THE) co-hosted the Asia Universities Summit 2026 from April 22 to 24. Under the theme "Igniting Global Transformation: Asia's Leadership," the three-day premier event explores Asia's pivotal role in reshaping global innovation and addressing pressing societal challenges through higher education.The Summit holds particular significance as it coincides with HKUST’s 35th anniversary and marks a decade of partnership between the University and THE since the inaugural summit. This year's event has attracted over 600 university presidents, policymakers, and industry titans from 25 countries and regions, underscoring a collective commitment to advancing the academic landscape across the continent.

With the rapid aging of Hong Kong's population, it is projected that by 2039, individuals aged 65 or above will account for over 30% of the total population, making early intervention for cognitive health an urgent necessity. This demographic shift highlights the critical need for effective strategies to address cognitive decline in the elderly.One of these strategies is to promote the detection of Alzheimer's disease at the community level. But this approach faces numerous obstacles. High testing costs, invasive procedures, and a lack of public awareness about the importance of early detection have hindered accessibility. Caring for our communityRecognizing these challenges, the NeuroCare Community Project was launched to bridge this gap. This project supports early and proactive intervention at the community level to delay the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, thus alleviating pressure on caregivers and society at large.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) today launched the NeuroCare Community Project (the Project), a five-year initiative to enhance early detection of Alzheimer’s risk for Hong Kong’s elderly who need support. Working with over 40 community centers under more than a dozen non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and in collaboration with Tung Wah College (TWC), the Project aims to screen 6,000 community-dwelling elderly aged 60-75, shifting the focus from late-stage diagnosis to proactive, community-based care.With the rapid aging of Hong Kong’s population, it is projected that by 2039, individuals aged 65 or above will account for over 30% of the total population, making early intervention for cognitive health an urgent necessity. 

Led by The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the Hong Kong Space Robotics and Energy Centre (HKSREC), under the InnoHK Research Clusters of the HKSAR Government, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Southeast University (SEU) to establish a long-term strategic partnership. The collaboration will focus on research innovation, technology transfer, and talent cultivation in the fields of space robotics, deep space energy systems, embodied intelligence, and related interdisciplinary areas, thereby contributing to the nation’s efforts to build a leading aerospace power.A delegation led by the Nanjing Municipal People's Government visited HKUST's Clear Water Bay campus on March 8. They engaged in an insightful discussion with the University’s management and representatives, and toured the State Key Laboratory of Displays and Optoelectronics, where HKUST's latest research innovations were showcased.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a generous donation of HKD 30 million from Futu Securities International (Hong Kong) Limited (Futu) to support the University’s innovation and research development, as well as to establish a new scholarship recognizing outstanding HKUST students. In appreciation of Futu’s dedicated support, the University has named a multi-purpose learning facility at the Lee Shau Kee Library as the “Futu Academic Pavilion,” which serving as a key academic center for its faculty and students to engage in teaching, group discussions, and individual learning. This initiative not only underscores the importance of industry-academia collaboration in talent development but also lays a solid foundation for long-term cooperation between the two parties.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Zhejiang University (ZJU) recently co-hosted the Pacific Asia and Australasia Regional Finals of the 2025-26 Global Sustainability Challenge at ZJU’s Zijingang campus in Hangzhou. The inaugural competition, initiated by the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability, brings together leading educational institutions and experts around the world to provide a platform for students to design, implement, and showcase innovative sustainability solutions. Ten outstanding teams, including one from HKUST, have advanced to the global finale in April to compete for the championship.
