神舟二十三號載人飛船順利升空，並首次有香港載荷專家參與國家航天任務，為香港航天發展譜寫嶄新篇章。為見證這歷史性時刻，香港科技大學（科大）約50名師生今日齊聚校園，共同觀看電視直播，現場氣氛熱烈高漲。當火箭騰飛一刻，師生們紛紛報以熱烈掌聲及歡呼，對能夠同步見證國家航天任務圓滿成功，均感到無比激動與自豪。 近年來，科大科研團隊積極及深度參與國家航天任務。在現場觀看直播的師生之中，不少亦曾參與由科大團隊牽頭研製的全球首款輕小型、高分辨率、高精度二氧化碳與甲烷點源協同探測儀——「天韻相機」（MUSICO）項目。該項目由多位科大教授領導，包括科大土木及環境工程學系講座教授蘇慧教授、土木及環境工程學系系主任兼講座教授張利民教授，以及新興跨學科領域學部副教授翟成興教授。 曾於美國太空總署（NASA）任職長達17年的大氣科學專家蘇慧教授表示：「看到火箭順利升空，大家心情都無比激動，難以言喻。航天任務從研發到發射，每一個環節都需要大量專家與科研人員傾注心力，付出巨大努力；當中涉及的技術攻關與嚴謹測試，確實不計其數。我們亦特別為今次有來自香港的載荷專家參與其中而深感自豪，衷心祝願她在天宮太空站上各項任務圓滿成功。」 

Eight talented secondary school students from Hong Kong achieved excellent results at the 24th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO 2024) held in Malaysia from 3-10 June 2024. The Hong Kong APhO team members were Chan Hoi-chi (Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College), Edison Fu (Queen's College), Leung Chi-fung (Evangel College), Liu Lincoln (Sha Tin College) Matthew Mui (The Hong Kong Sze Yap Commercial and Industrial Association Wong Tai Shan Memorial College), Marcus Poon (Po Leung Kuk Choi Kai Yau School), Michael Tang (St. Joseph's College), and Yan King-yiu (Queen Elizabeth School). Competing among over 200 students from 27 countries or cities, the team won one gold medal (Liu), three silver medals (Leung, Fu, Yan), two bronze medals (Mui, Tang), and two honourable mentions (Chan, Poon), and was ranked 8th among all teams at the competition. The team was trained and mentored this year by Dr.

The 2023 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards (“HLMA”), co-organized by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (“HKUST”) and Hang Lung Properties Limited (“Hang Lung Properties”), announced this year’s winners recently. Kyan CHEUNG Ka-Hin and Ethan SOH Jon-Yi from Harrow International School Hong Kong received the Gold Award for their research report titled “On the Properties of the Semigroup Generated by the RL Fractional Integral”. MOK Chun-Hei and WONG Hei from S.K.H. Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School and TAM Hei-Tung from HKUGA College won the Silver Award and the Bronze Award, respectively. They demonstrated exceptional problem-solving abilities and creativity in tackling complex mathematical problems.

HKUST and Tramplus  have signed a cooperation agreement for the launch of a special STEM education program for local primary and secondary school students.

Tsz Hin CHAN from Pui Ching Middle School received the Gold Award for his research report titled “On Non-Torsion Solutions of Homogeneous Linear Systems over Rings” at the 2021 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards. The Scientific Committee noted that Tsz Hin’s research report was at postgraduate level and demonstrated outstanding logical thinking and analytical ability. On Ki LUO from Pui Ching Middle School and Wai Lok LAI from St. Paul’s Co-educational College won the Silver Award and the Bronze Award, respectively. Together with the five Honorable Mentions of equal ranking, HK$1 million in prize money will be shared among winning students, and their teachers and schools, in recognition of their mathematics research projects that meet the highest academic standards in terms of methodology, research, and scholarship.
