HKUST Professor Bestowed with France’s “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite”
Prof. Veronique LAFON-VINAIS, Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Finance at HKUST Business School, was bestowed the rank of “Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite” on Mar 3 at the Residence of the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to sustainable finance education.The honor was presented by Mrs. Christile DRULHE, Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, on March 3. The award recognizes Prof. Lafon-Vinais’ role in advancing sustainability in finance and in strengthening collaboration between France and Hong Kong.Reflecting on the recognition, Prof. Lafon-Vinais said the award also acknowledged the collective efforts of colleagues who have worked over the past decades to advance sustainable development and the growth of sustainable and green finance. She added that she was proud of the many interdisciplinary achievements made at HKUST.

HKUST Hosts Naming Ceremony of Futu Academic Pavilion
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a generous donation of HKD 30 million from Futu Securities International (Hong Kong) Limited (Futu) to support the University’s innovation and research development, as well as to establish a new scholarship recognizing outstanding HKUST students. In appreciation of Futu’s dedicated support, the University has named a multi-purpose learning facility at the Lee Shau Kee Library as the “Futu Academic Pavilion,” which serving as a key academic center for its faculty and students to engage in teaching, group discussions, and individual learning. This initiative not only underscores the importance of industry-academia collaboration in talent development but also lays a solid foundation for long-term cooperation between the two parties.

Advancing Global Collaboration with Germany’s Leading Universities
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) was honored to host a distinguished delegation from the German U15 and TU9 – German Universities of Technology Alliances on February 4, alongside Consul General of Germany to Hong Kong and Macao Dr Annika BOLTEN-DRUTSCHMANN.Vice-President for Institutional Advancement Prof. Charles NG, Associate Provost (Institutional Data & Research) Dr. Alison LLOYD, and Assistant Vice-President for Institutional Advancement (Global Engagement) Prof. Angela NG welcomed 20 delegates representing 11 esteemed German institutions. The official meeting provided a platform for exchanging updates and engaging in meaningful discussions on strengthening academic and research collaborations.

HKUST and Three Top Hospitals of Zhejiang University Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Medical Education and Research

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) welcomed Mr. Daniel FREIHOFER, Consul General of Switzerland in Hong Kong and his delegation to campus on January 9, for an in-depth exchange on education, research, and innovation.President Prof. Nancy IP and Dr. Alison LLOYD, Associate Provost (Institutional Data and Research) hosted the Swiss delegation, highlighting the University’s longstanding partnerships with the World Economic Forum and Swiss institutions in areas such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and student mobility.Discussions also reflected on HKUST leadership’s recent delegation to Switzerland, which further strengthened ties with academic and research partners. The University’s expanding footprint in Chinese Mainland — including the HKUST Guangzhou campus and the recently established Shanghai Center — was presented as a platform for new opportunities to deepen collaboration with Swiss institutions and corporates.
