HKUST Receives Donations from Tanoto Foundation and Mr James E Thompson To Boost Study on Asian Family Business and International Business Related Cases
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received donations from Mr Sukanto Tanoto, Chairman of RGE Group and the Founder of Tanoto Foundation and Mr James E Thompson, Founder and Chairman of Crown Worldwide Group, to boost the study on Asian family business, entrepreneurship and business cases. In appreciation of this act of generosity and support, the University named the Tanoto Center for Asian Family Business & Entrepreneurship Studies and the Thompson Center for Business Case Studies in their honor respectively today.

HKUST Receives HK$5M Donation from Dr Hari N Harilela to Enhance Teaching & Research Excellence
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) received a five million dollar donation from Dr Hari N Harilela for the setting up of professorship for outstanding up-and-coming faculty. The professorship will be named in honor of Dr and Mrs Hari N Harilela.

HKUST and Value Partners Launch Hong Kong's First Academic Center for Investing
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and Value Partners Group Limited (SEHK: 806) jointly announce today the launch of the Value Partners Center for Investing at the HKUST Business School - the first academic center of its kind in Hong Kong to support research and training on investment management.The Value Partners Center for Investing aims to contribute to Hong Kong's role as a pre-eminent regional asset management center through promoting and supporting a wide range of activities in relation to investment research and training. The realization of the Center has been made possible through a generous donation from Value Partners Group Limited of close to HK$10 million. The Center will become fully operational in September 2011.

HKUST Appoints Chairman of China Vanke Co Ltd Mr Wang Shi as Adjunct Professor in the Business School
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announces the appointment of Mr WANG Shi, Chairman of the Board of Directors, China Vanke Co Ltd, as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Business and Management with effect from 21 June 2010, to teach in the HKUST EMBA for Chinese Executives program.

New Academic Head at HKUST (Chinese version only)
香港科技大學(科大)委任陳玉樹教授出任學術副校長,專責為大學制定學術政策,統籌大學四所學院的運作及學術活動。陳教授表示:「我感到很榮幸,可以出任學術副校長,但同時我也戰戰競競。在短短十年間,科大已躍升為香港及亞太區一所優秀的研究型大學。我會竭盡所能,將科大建設成一所世界大學,匯聚全球睿智、創意及學識,貢獻社會。」陳教授於1990至1993年借調到科大,出任財務及經濟學系副主任,並協助工商管理學院延攬教授。1993年,他獲委任為商學院創院院長。科大校長朱經武教授表示:「陳教授是一位卓越的學者,能幹的主管;他治學嚴謹,待人以誠。作為商學院創院院長,他的起點定得很高,看得很遠,一步步帶領商學院實踐使命。科大商學院在短短十年間躋身世界級商學院之列,在亞洲居領先地位,足證他領導有方。」陳教授的研究領域包括信息經濟學、金融機構與合約、及公司財務。他是商學及會計學課程權威認可機構工商管理學院國際協會(AACSB)國際顧問委員會成員、亞太財務協會理事(於1997-99年間出任該會主席)及國際學術期刊《銀行與金融》副編輯。陳教授1975年以一級榮譽畢業於香港中文大學,其後赴美留學,在柏克萊加州大學獲工商管理碩士、經濟學碩士及經濟財務學博士學位。畢業後受聘於西北大學Kellogg管理研究院,1986年轉往南加州大學任教,1990年升任達爾財務學講座教授。陳教授積極參與公職及社會服務:他是公務員薪俸及服務條件常務委員會委員、紀律部隊人員薪俸及服務條件常務委員會委員、薪酬趨勢調查委員會主席、恒指諮詢委員會委員、公開大學校董會成員及教育統籌委員會中學以後教育發展工作小組成員。在出任副校長前,陳教授曾署理該職近一年。他獲科大校董會副校長聘選委員會及朱經武校長一致推薦出任副校長,任期三年,自2001年12月18日起生效。

HKUST and HKIEd Offer Joint IT Teacher Education Programme
The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIEd) and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) signed an academic collaboration agreement today (17 January 2000), signifying their mutual commitment to exploring academic interchanges. Signed by Professor Ruth Hayhoe, Director of HKIEd, and Professor Chia-Wei Woo, President of HKUST, the agreement includes the joint offering of a new four-year full-time degree programme “Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mathematics / Information Technology Education” from September 2000.
